RJC Consultants Newsletter  No.2 November 2003

RJC has continued its initiative to obtain work from major contractors. We have now added several new contractor clients to our current list. We are also active in the specialist M&E and Process Engineering Sectors and are currently working with two major contractors on major claims in Geneva and the UK.

We continue to offer current commercial and contractual advice and support to our growing list of existing clients including Developers, Industrialists, Local Authorities, Contractors and Specialist Contractors.

Investors in People

RJC attended the official Investors in People Award Ceremony at the Mansion House in Bristol in May to receive their highly coveted award from the Lord Mayor. The occasion provided the opportunity to mingle with other local businesses being presented with their IIP plaques.

Slough Office

The successful opening of our Slough Office in May 2003 has broadened our activities into the Thames Valley and Home Counties. To mark the occasion an official launch was held, which provided an opportunity for clients to visit the office and meet the RJC team in an informal environment over a few nibbles and a glass of wine. We welcome aboard Suzanne Bluett, who joined us at the beginning of September as a part-time Secretary & Administrator based in the Slough office

The Slough location allows us to provide an improved service to both our new and existing clients in the central and South East region. Meanwhile our Bristol Office continues to deal with a plethora of dispute work including Mediation, Adjudication, Arbitration, Litigation and Insolvency.

Commercial Workshops.

Together with Clarks, a top-ranking firm of solicitors based in Reading, RJC is offering a series of workshops on a variety of commercial and legal topics such as:

• DSC Form of Sub Contract

• Adjudication – Impact on You & Recent Case Law

• Record Keeping

• How and When to Successfully Present and  Defend Claims

• Alternative Dispute Resolution.

• JCT Major Works Contract

These workshops are tailor made to suit clients’ specific requirements and a degree of participation is included in order that attendees gain maximum benefit.

A Day at the Rugby

August once again saw the RJC annual trip to Twickenham to the Middlesex Sevens Tournament. This provided an opportunity for Clients and the RJC team to meet away from the usual environment and pressure of work. The day being pleasantly warm with a packed programme of action on the field, together with a bit of friendly rivalry between various supporters and a few jars of beer led to a thoroughly enjoyable event for all. Congratulations to the competition winners Northampton Saints!

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

RJC has identified the need for it sconsultants to obtain and maintain the appropriate certification under the CSCS and has embarked on the necessary Health & Safety training under the auspices of the CITB to ensure compliance when visiting or working on construction sites
